THE LITTLE AMERICAN (1917) starring Mary Pickford
The Little American is the second of two Mary Pickford / Cecil B. DeMille collaborations and one of the first major films released after America’s entry into the World War.
Mary Pickford stars as Angela Moore, a young American passenger on a boat torpedoed by the Germans at the outset of World War I, in 1914. Trapped by the enemy in a French chateau, Angela bravely faces the horrors of war, and the terrible pain of heartbreak. The Little American is a timeless classic filled with drama, romance, and the epic scenes that will come to be identified with the grand cinematic experience of a film by Cecil B. DeMille.
“The combined arts of Mary Pickford and Cecil B. DeMille have been linked together in the cause of a great photoplay, and judging from advanced reports, this production will go down in motion picture history as one of the greatest works of art, as well as one of its most powerful appeals.” – Calgary Herald, June 30, 1917
This restored version of THE LITTLE AMERICAN has been digitally mastered in high definition with an original orchestral score by Adam Chavez. This film is presented through the generosity of Mary Pickford Foundation.
