Stella Maris was a first for Mary Pickford as well as a major advancement in filmmaking. She plays dual roles in a film that is very different than anything she had done before. Mary’s performance elevated the critics’ appreciation of her and audiences flocked to see her in what turned out to be a huge commercial success.
