In 1992 a group of film enthusiasts involved in the restoration of Marie Dressler House had a wild idea. Why not hold a festival showing the films in which Marie Dressler starred? Originally called the Cobourg Film Festival, the Vintage Film Festival has served as a fundraising vehicle for the Marie Dressler Foundation’s charitable activities while remembering Marie Dressler and the movies of her time.

This seemingly fantastic idea grew into the present form in which, for the last 30 years, we have shown a variety of films from the silent era through to the 1960s screened in the heritage Capitol Theatre, in Port Hope, Ontario.

Today, the Vintage Film Festival has expanded to a program of three days of vintage movies in mid-October each year including silent movies with live piano/organ accompaniment. The Festival attracts many visitors to Cobourg and Port Hope during this weekend.
