Marie Dressler Foundation

Marie Dressler Foundation (the “Foundation”), founded in 1990, is a not-for-profit, registered charity under the Canada Revenue Agency.

The Foundation was incorporated to operate a not-for-profit Community organization established to ensure the preservation and restoration of the birthplace of Marie Dressler, to operate a museum honoring Marie Dressler and other Canadians in the film industry, and to conduct educational programs.

Our mission is to preserve and promote the memory of Marie Dressler and other remarkable Canadian women in the film industry through the museum and its educational programs and to celebrate our love of vintage films with our community with an annual Vintage Film Festival.

We aim to build engaged community audiences through the curated presentations of film history at Canadian Women in Film Museum and exhibitions of vintage filmmaking.

Vintage Film Festival

Now in its 30th year, the Vintage Film Festival, owned and operated by the Foundation, showcases films older than 50 years that span the beginning of filmmaking until the early 1970s. More details are available at www.vintagefilmfestival.ca

The Board of Directors of the Foundation is committed to:

  • Providing accessible museum and Festival experiences by removing physical, social, and economic barriers to participation;
  • Valuing and empowering volunteers and employees;
  • Nurturing collaborative community partnerships

Student Education Assistance

The Foundation has always been interested in encouraging young people to pursue higher education in the performing arts and more recently in the visual arts. Each year, supported by its fundraising efforts, the Foundation awards bursaries to graduating students in each of Northumberland County’s public secondary schools.

Since 1992 the Foundation has awarded a total of 50 bursaries to assist exceptional individuals throughout Northumberland County to pursue their dreams.
The bursary awards are based upon enrolment in a post-secondary institution in a performing arts discipline, the student’s personal achievements, academic performance, and contribution to the community.
